NIRA's Club Newsletter, The Leading Edge

The Leading Edge is the bimonthly newsletter of the Northern Illinois Rocketry Association. It covers all our activities and has the club event calendar in it. Since our members are scattered all over the Chicago metropolitan area this calendar is your key to keeping up with what's on tap in the way of NIRA rocket activities. You can check it to find out about meetings and our latest launch schedule.

The Leading Edge contains plans for sport and contest models, "how to" articles, reports on our launches, competition flying, HPR events, and other activities, and some current space events. Since its inception The Leading Edge has had constant club membership involvement. Nationally, we're known for an often funny, and occasionally irreverent, look at our hobby.

In 1982, 1984, 1996, 1997, 1999 and again in 2001 The Leading Edge was the winner of the North American Rockwell Trophy. This trophy is presented annually by the National Association of Rocketry and is symbolic of the best non-professional model rocket newsletter in the country. The Leading Edge is one of only a handful of multiple winners of this award. Our editor is constantly on the prowl for good articles, plans and photos.
